Ajay Bansal, Advocate of the Supreme Court of India, has been practicing law for nearly three decades. He graduated from the University of Delhi, where he later pursued his law degree. In 1992, he attended the University of Ottawa, Canada, for higher studies. Over the years, Mr Bansal has authored articles on legal issues and appeared in television programmes advocating for legal and public interest causes.
During the Uttarakhand tragedy in Kedarnath, he filed a writ petition in his name to secure justice for numerous individuals stranded in Gangotri and other regions. His efforts led to rescue helicopter services reaching those in dire need. Despite receiving invitations from multiple media channels and organisations, Mr Bansal has consciously avoided public limelight, choosing instead to focus on his work.
In 1998-99 and 1999-2000, he served on the Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), becoming the youngest Treasurer in the association’s history. A pioneer of reforms, he played a pivotal role in ensuring the bar’s accounts were audited and registered. He was also a founding member of the Supreme Court Group Housing Society, which facilitated residential accommodation for SCBA members.
As a first-generation lawyer, Mr Bansal has excelled in his profession, earning the opportunity to serve the Government, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and leading entities. He has spent 30 years at the Supreme Court of India, starting as Central Government Counsel in 1996. Between 1997 and 2002, he served as Deputy Advocate General of Punjab and later held the position of Additional Advocate General for Punjab at Supreme Court of India intermittently from 2003 to 2017. He also served as Additional Advocate General for Haryana in the Supreme Court from 2014 to 2022 and still working as Senior Arguing Counsel, making him one of the rare legal professionals to represent both States simultaneously. He continues to act as a senior arguing counsel for Haryana, North Delhi Municipal Corp., and other entities.
As a founder and initiator of several social and charitable organizations since 1991, Mr Bansal has worked tirelessly to promote peace, harmony, brotherhood, and happiness in society. His contributions have been recognized by numerous esteemed associations and societies.
A trained Mediator with the Supreme Court of India, he has participated in numerous seminars and international programs on mediation. He is an active member of the Supreme Court Mediation Advocates platform and contributes to various mediation initiatives under the aegis of number of Foundations and Public Platform.
Mr Bansal has also championed public causes of societal importance through different platforms. His contributions include addressing Wakf land issues, conducting pro bono mediation for community welfare, and advocating for a conflict-free society to foster harmony and brotherhood.
Ajay Bansal remains a committed legal professional and a dedicated advocate for social justice and public welfare. He has recently authored two reference books on Mediation and Arbitration for students aspiring to become mediators and arbitrators and the said book has been forwarded by Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Bindal Judge Supreme Court of India and Hon’ble Justice Hemant Gupta Former Judge Supreme Court of India and Chairperson India International Arbitration Centre. Mr Bansal has started sharing his professional experiences in the form of speaking at certain platforms and also writing some more books.
