EXPERIENCE ON ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION (ADR) INCLUDING LOK ADALATS:

  • 25 years’ experience in handling Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Methods and Lok Adalats for speedy and inexpensive Dispute Resolution.
  • Evolved and implemented a Programme for holding Lok Adalats in the State of Punjab for speedy settlement of labour disputes during 2000-2001 under the guidance and close supervision of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority – 18,000 cases disposed off.
  • Invited by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as a resource person on Lok Adalats at various Regional, National and International Workshops/Seminars/Conferences.
  • Addressed delegates from many countries on ‘Lok Adalats in Labour matters’ at the International Training Centre, Turin (Italy) of the UNO, in July 2007.
  • A Mega Lok Adalat was organised by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for the States of Punjab & Haryana in December 2008. The Hon’ble Chief Justice appointed the undersigned as the Chief Coordinator for the State of Punjab to coordinate with different Departments of Government.
  • Invited by the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) on 08.02.2005 to make presentation on Lok Adalats. Instructions were issued by the NCDRC on 23.08.2005 to all State Commissions, saying that Lok Adalats shall be organised by all Consumer Courts/Fora in the country, once every week.
  • Guest Faculty at the State Judicial Academy, Chandigarh to address on Lok Adalats.
  • The UNCTAD organised first Regional Conference at New Delhi in October 2017, to present an overview of the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection, 2015 and Implementation. Prominent speaker at the said conference on, “ADR methods for speedy and inexpensive Dispute Resolution”.
  • Written an article for the ILO on the subject, “ADR : Settlement of Labour Disputes through Lok Adalats (People’s Courts)” in the Indian Punjab.
  • Published an article in the magazine “Yojana”, December 2017 issue, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi on the subject, “Justice Delivery for Low Income Consumers – ADR and UN Guidelines 2015”.
